Driving Innovation Together: Tech Entrepreneur Talk

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of China-Malaysia Diplomatic Relations, TAR UMT Johor recently hosted an illuminating Tech Entrepreneur Talk on March 13th, 2024, in Segamat, Johor, Malaysia. This collaborative endeavor, orchestrated by ChangeMaker Malaysia and iMakerbase Shenzhen, provided a platform for over 1000 attendees to delve into the dynamics of tech entrepreneurship.

Under the adept guidance of John Tay, Founder and President of ChangeMaker, the event unfolded seamlessly, reflecting a synergy of professionalism and expertise. Supported by Dr. Sam Yet Huat, Branch Head and the dedicated TAR UMT team, including Dr. Celine Leong, KuCF, Heng, and others, the talk radiated with insights and possibilities.

John Tay’s impassioned address underscored the urgency of equipping university students with digital fluency. Drawing on his experiences, he elucidated the transformative power of emerging technologies such as S.T.E.A.M, Internet of Things (IoT), AI, and 5G, urging attendees to embrace digital transformation as a pathway to entrepreneurial success.

Key to the discourse were Allan Ding, CEO, and Zoey Zeng, VP of International Department, representing iMakerbase Shenzhen in China. Their presentation not only unveiled iMakerbase’s mission but also charted a course for future collaboration. iMakerbase, as revealed, aims to serve as a catalyst for international tech collaborations, empowering startups to transcend borders and tap into the thriving innovation hub of Shenzhen Silicon Valley. Their vision aligns seamlessly with ChangeMaker’s ethos, promising exciting opportunities for joint ventures and knowledge exchange.

Stanely Siow, Co-Founder, and Secretary of ChangeMaker, further bolstered the narrative with a riveting showcase of real-world tech applications. His exposition of a smart agriculture use case from the 5G International Conference in Langkawi, 2019, served as a testament to the potential of technology in addressing societal challenges.

The event, which attracted about 300 students and lecturers from TAR UMT Johor and 700 iMakerbase partners and network participants via Zoom, epitomized the spirit of collaboration and innovation. As the curtains drew to a close, discussions lingered on the horizon of future collaborations between ChangeMaker, iMakerbase Shenzhen, and TAR UMT.
