I first came across IoT around 2003/2004 when I was working on emerging tech as part of the new initiatives / foresight programme i was managing at the UN/ITU.
I believed it was going to be a key element of our future technological and social landscape and I pushed for it to be the subject of the UN’s first international publication on the subject in 2005 “ ITU Internet Report :The Internet of Things” and was lead author and editor.
Being fascinated by IoT, I wanted to pursue it further, so very soon after, I took a sabbatical to complete my PhD (in 2009) on the power of IoT combined with algorithm-based decision-making in health/social care.
